Christian Fellowship
When we speak of the breaking of the bread, there is always a sense of fellowship that is implied by the practice. What is the significance of partaking in the symbolic Bread and Wine amongst our brothers and sisters? How does sharing in Christ’s body and blood affect people as a community?
In many cultures, sharing a meal with others signifies unity and peace. That said, people do not dine with those whom they do not trust. Dining with another is often perceived to be sharing in their company –bestowing acceptance and goodwill unto the other.
The breaking of bread is a meal shared by the whole church that included the blessing of the loaf and cup according to Jesus’ instructions. However, not all members of the Church are acquainted with one another. Even so, the breaking of the break continued to be practiced in Churches around the world, bringing together friends and strangers alike.
