Peace Be Still
In the midst of turmoil, often our minds end up in disarray as well. When the tempests of life come crashing down upon our heads, what do we do?
There was one such time that even the disciples of Christ were given such trials. One of those times was after the sermon on the mount. Jesus and His disciples decided to cross a large body of water and there were boats following. There arose a great storm that all the other boats turned back and there they were left fearing for their life. The Master lay in slumber as He was subject to mortal frailties as well. He was tired so he slept through the storm.
But such was the howling of the winds and the waves; and such was the fear of His followers; that they decided to wake him up. They feared to sink in the bottom of the ocean and for the safety of their lives. They asked Jesus,”Master, carest thou not that we perish?”
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. (Mark 4:39)
It was merely a test of their faith. We are all tested and, at times, even come to question the if the Lord cares. But He does. The storms will be rebuked with a single word from Him. And we also will feel the calm only if we hold out and endure.
Sometimes we just have to be still and know that He is God. Put our faith in the Savior and trust that He will deliver us, as long as we keep Him in our vessels and remain faithful saints and followers of Christ. He will be there to lift, inspire and bless. Amen.
